DESCRIPTION:San Pedro Valley Park Visitor Center Presents: \n\nLecture: CA Native Plant Diversity\n\n\n\nLet's take a closer look at spring and summer in California- the beautiful wildflower blooms\, but also smaller\, more subtle signs of plant growth taking advantage of the winter and early spring rains. This talk celebrates some of the fantastic diversity of the California Floristic Province\, in the context of the incredibly varied and complex ecosystems these plants have evolved in: from the ephemeral blankets of vibrant annuals in the southern deserts to the charismatic unveiling of our manifold geophytes. It will also address some of the major threats faced by California flora\, such as increased fire regimes\, changing rain patterns\, human impact\, and invasive plants. Morgan Stickrod's interest in plants developed at an early age and he is currently a graduate botany student at San Francisco State University. For his thesis research\, he is investigating seed banks and vegetation dynamics of a brackish tidal marsh in Solano County. Sponsored by the Friends of San Pedro Valley Park. Donations are accepted to help with future programs. Parking is available within the park for $6 and street parking is also available.
